So, I was going to leave social media.

Yes you read the title correctly, I was at one point recently, going to leave social media and stop blogging.

I had pictures of myself and my kids on my blog and IG, I thought nothing of snapping photos and posting them. Then at work we had safe guarding training. Things changed. It opened my eyes to the big wide world of social media. The world that I don’t want to willingly have my kids right in the middle of.

There are as we all know, some really vile people out there. People who will happily take children’s photos off of the internet and well you know the rest.

Something that I had thought about but wasn’t sure how I was going to manage it was people I know finding me on my blog. The idea of my blog was to be able to honestly write about myself and really be free to off load my thoughts and feelings without judgement. With my photo and name it wasn’t long before I was found on IG and my blog.

When I came home from work I also realised that I don’t want parents or children that I know to find me either. I thought the best thing to do was to just come off social media as a blogger. I felt truly gutted.

Anyway I was talking to one of my blogger buddies, I said I wanted to blog anonymously but had no real idea how. I mean who can relate to someone they can’t see? But, there are other anonymous bloggers out there. Some of them are quite discreet about it so it isn’t obvious, but I have spotted a few!

We brain stormed some ideas and with the help of Kim Scotland (Thebloggenie), she was able to save my old blog and transfer everything over to this blog where I have tweaked photos and deleted posts that had too many photos of my kids or myself that I couldn’t change.

So I am still here blogging away while currently drinking Baileys and finding other ways of taking photos on IG. I have started a new IG account which you can follow here if you would like to 🙂

I think I sit somewhere in between. I’m not anonymous but I try to keep the kids faces off the blog and social media. I maybe take a pic of the side of their faces or the back of their heads, but being anonymous is totally doable! I’m so worried about people getting hold of photos of the kids that I only rarely post pics of my children on my private Facebook page. Feel free to have a nosey around my blog to see how I keep my kids more anon. I decided go down the more magazine style route!

You are right – there are some really vile people out there! But there will always be haters whether you blog or not so I say don’t let that stop you! Some people really can be very toxic…

I have found photo filters so i’m happier posting photos this way. For me personally it’s all about protection.

I have only seen a few anonymous bloggers but they make it work and blogging is all about sharing what you feel like sharing.

It’s good to be cautious. I do share pics of my kids, but I’m always careful not to give away exact locations, not to show them in their school uniform etc.

Yes we have to be quite aware of what information we may accidently post to the whole wide world!

Hi *waves. It’s so lovely to hear that you have found a way to blog which you feel comfortable in. Like you’ve said- there are actually quite a few bloggers that blog anonymously- and you would never know it! X

I think it’s important to do what you feel is right for you and your family around your identity and photos on social media. Hopefully with these steps you feel more secure and are able to carry on blogging 🙂

Yes I have to feel 100% happy with what I post 🙂

This is really interesting to read. I blog with my children featured openly – but not their names. (Or mine). I guess it is a personal decision, I am glad you have found a way to blog that you are happy with. Kaz

Yes it’s totally everyone’s preference. It’s whatever makes us bloggers happy 🙂

I totally get this and it’s something I’ve been putting into place over the last 2 years. I don’t use the kids names and rarely share full face photos of them. Off to follow you!

Ah thanks! It’s nice to know I’m not alone in the photo side of things 🙂
